We do appreciate all the different colors of this wonderful breed and it is always fun if we receive a foal of a more rare color. However, we do not make stallion-mare matches to produce a certain color. Our stallion choices for our mares are strictly based on the traits that each parents contributes and we would like to see improved in the next generation. This doesn't exclude breeding the same color to the same color, in fact, we have a couple mares that have produced the most "complete packages" bred to stallion of the same color, which comes down to the individual traits and is not related to the color.
We also haven't "specialized" in trying to produce a specific color and reject breeding outside mares, whose owner are selecting our stallions simply because they want to produce a colored foal.
Again, our breeding decisions are made trying to produce the most complete package out of two individuals with their individual strengths and weaknesses. In the end a more well rounded foal is worth more than a inferior put together foal with color. Not every filly and especially not every colt will end up as breeding stock, therefore making the best cross possible is doing more for the breed and the individual than producing a lesser quality offspring with a different genetic pairing.
Between us we have imported 4 very unique and genetically unrelated Fjord horses from Norway, Germany and the Netherland at this point and we are planning on bringing new unrelated genetics into the North American breeding population again.
Due to bad experiences in the past, we will not offer any of our services upfront or on credit. This includes boarding, consignments and stud services. Our prices for services are quite low for industry standards and it is that much more frustrating and expensive to have to run after our compensation. Therefore, we will require a retainer when booking any of our services.
Our mare herd is carefully selected according to quality of pedigree/ancestors, traits the individual exhibits, traits the individual passes on and health. We do not breed mares that have known genetically inherited health issues and strongly discourage mare owners to breed mares with such. Outside mares are rejected for stud service that have inherited or infectious skin conditions including Hypersensitivity, Sarcoidosis, Sweet Itch or are carriers of any kind of diseases in order to protect our own stock and ethical responsibility for the breed and it's next generation. Outside mares for live cover need to be vaccinated, preferably with a 6- way, and proof of vaccination needs to be send to us PRIOR to arrival on our property.
We always love hearing how Fjords we have bred, raised and/or sold are doing with their new family and getting updates on their adventures and what they are otherwise up to. We appreciate if owners let us know if a Fjord that came from our farm is being offered for sale and we may be able to take it back or help find it a new home. We care deeply for each individual that we produced and wish for each and every one of them to have a loving home.
However, we do value people's privacy and respect that after the ownership transfers, it is out of our responsibility and influence what is being done with a Fjords that came from our program. We do not except customers to do things exactly how we do it, whether we agree with their methods or not. We do not spread our opinion about other people's horses, care or operation on our website or social media, including setting up whole FB pages only to broadcast our dislike for other people or pressure them to buy a horse back.
