Foals 2024

 Helena must have taken a close look on our Norwegian Fjord Foal Calendar and found her name on it. Right at midnight on her due date her water broke and she delivered a beautiful brown dun filly by Gio.
This is the biggest foal she has produced so far, but also the longest she has ever carried. 

DD Hazel has an adorable face, strong straight legs and sweetheart personality = simply perfect!

 This cross has again turned out as nice as we expected and will be crossing Helena and Gio again for 2025.  

LVG Faski proudly presented her white dun colt a week early. This handsome fella is sired by our homebred stallion (now gelding) DD Malibu (Prince Maximus Sur Mer x Ironwood Helena by OH Wynn). 

DD Merkur has quite the line of ancestors to show off including Prydarson, Felix, Flotren, Mogly, Bakkens Marius and Modellen. He is already showing great presence and we are hoping he will stay intact for future breeding use.

In her usual fashion, Zelda foaled 2.5 weeks early and produced a handsome red dun colt with Gio. DD Gin has big shoes to fill as his full brother, DD Gian (2023), was a super fancy mover. Gin is bigger framed than his brother and looks more like his daddy Gio, so we are excited to see how he continues to mature.

And our last foal for this season is our Gio x Siljar cross. Giovanni has Siljar's frame and disposition paired with Gio's beautiful head. We love the exceptional neck that Siljar passes on to his offspring and apparently also grandoffspring. Giovanni is possibility the most personable, brave, curious and adventurous foal we ever had! We love the blend of our stallions extremely well and are excited for more foals out of this combination!

The Easter Bunny had a very special drop off for us in 2023: an adorable red dun filly by Gio and out of Jorun. After really liking this cross in 2022 (DD Joy), we repeated the pairing and have in regards to conformation, personality and movement again received an exceptional foal. Josefina has unfortunately a white star and will therefore not be retained in our breeding program, even though she meets ALL other criteria and we are very fond of her. But with Gio as the father and Jorun as the mother, she will have all the talent in the Fjord world to make an amazing riding and competition horse. 

We were looking forward with great anticipation to this foal, especially since we love the cross with Flora's dam, LVG Faksi, and Tsjalle so well. While the result was a bit of a surprise, this little colt has exceeded our expectations! DD Ty - short and adorable- just like the horse itself, has the cutest head we have ever seen on a colt. He is extremely friendly unlike his dam as a foal, and very curious and affectioned. Since Flora is not a big mare, this cutie is the perfect first foal for her and has given us a good idea what she passes on and what not. 

This guy is our first foal by the Danish import and NFHR blue ribbon evaluated stallion Kian Klattrup and out of our homebred mare DD Princessa (Siljar x Greta by Bluebird Lane Griffon). 

DD Kristoff is a very curious, bright and engaged colt, who loves to test out all gears of his leg before taking a nap in your lap. We love his personality and are pleased how this cross worked!

Gnist - Norwegian for Spark - certainly has the fire in him! This guy is the born eventer being bold, curious, independent and tons of talent coming from both sides of his pedigree. Gnist has an adorable head, which is no wonder coming from both Gio and Greta. Unfortunately, he didn't turn out to be our "keeper filly", so he will make a fantastic partner in crime for someone liking more spark. 

5 years in planning and 360 days in waiting is all it took to have our first Gio foal born on American soil! While Jorun and Joy certainly kept us waiting, we are over the moon excited for this filly! Joy has been spunky, sassy and very active right from the start. With no doubt, this one is going to be a joy to watch grow and develop. 

Galant is a handsome brown dun colt by Gio out of one of our top mares Greta. He is very big, leggy, and has just a gorgeous head. Really, there is nothing we would have liked different. 

We are sure that his personality will met up to his name as he seems to be a gentlemen already. Since we really like this cross, we will be repeating this pairing and are keeping our fingers crossed for a "keeper filly" for our program.       

Zinnia is a big red dun filly by the stallion Willow's Bjorn (Willows Sven/Smedsmo Graen) and our mare Zelda (Bluebird Lane Griffon/ Peppertree's Christian). We love the big frame and the sweet personality on this gal. Zinnia's pedigree is full of high quality well known bloodlines including Runar Fra Opdal, Smedsmo Graen and Solbjor Borken on the sire side and Felix, Peppertree's Christian and Anvil's Morgen on the dam side. 

Lucky No. 7

Our lovely red dun mare Lillian produced her 7th foal with the 7th foal of the 2022 foaling season. And finally after 6 colts, Lillian produced the so much desired filly for us with DD Linnea. Linnea is sired by our red dun stallion Gio and we have no doubt that she will be a looker just like both of her parents. Linnea has a beautiful dark red color. 

We greatly anticipated the arrival of our first Gio x Tsjalle cross and this red dun colt has exceeded our expectations! We sold Silvianna, but were thankful for the opportunity to foal her out at DDungard and see/meet this cross in person. Since we are raising a few Tsjalle fillies, this was a great preview of how future crosses might turn out. DD Gryffin has confirmed our vision and stallion choices in the past and has made us excited for the future. Congratulations to Silvianna's owner Christine Hurst and DD Gryffin and his new owner as well. 

Last but not least .... the golden filly and an amazing finish for the 2022 foaling season, introducing DD Helana! Helana is a rare yellow dun filly by Gio and our white dun mare Helena. Se is super sweet, personable and just made to fit into our program. We are thrilled to now have all 5 Fjord colors on our property and with this filly we certainly hit the jackpot in regards to disposition, pedigree and conformation. We are looking forward to her future here at DDungård. 

Marius is our last Maximus foal and in a lot of ways the best one we got. He is super adorable with a beautiful head, balanced body and nice straight legs. Marius is very friendly, yet bold and confident. With just a few hours old, he had already tried out some moves. Just like his dad, Maximus, he has a fantastic ability to round through the neck and poll.

We have named him after his grandsire Bakkens Marius 

Trajan is the third colt born this year and a full-sibling to DD Kermit (2020). He had a super quick and uncomplicated birth on a beautiful afternoon and is continuing to take everything stride by stride. Trajan is nicely put together and will be a very fun and functional horse for dressage, driving, and trail riding, besides his desire to jump over logs at only 12 days of age! Trajan is extremely independent, social with other horses and loves to interact with people.  We are thrilled for the first WHITE dun Tsjalle foal to hit the ground!

Ani sneaked her colt out 14 days early and even though we had an close eye on her due to her history (4/5 foals were snuck out), she was not even bagged up and really soft last night and was turned out on pasture with the rest of the mare-foal gang. It was a nice surprise this morning when we looked out of the window and saw something small and white in front of Ani's feet. Both Ani and Spartan are doing really well. Placenta looked perfect and he was up, dry and nursing. Even though we weren't there when he was born, he is just super personable, friendly and loves attention. He looks like a "mini-me" of his daddy Siljar and there is no question that he also is a white dun. 

Confident, curious and personable are the words describing our first 2020 foal by Tsjalle and out of Kjella the best! Kermit was born with a huge appetite for milk, but also hungry for life. He is enjoying every minute and everyone who is visiting him. Kermit is super independent and luckily Kjella, as a first time mother, is okay with that. His personality is all daddy, with just a super cute and adorable head and and well put together body. 

Our first 2020 filly is just absolutely perfect in every way and we LOVE the cross between Megan and Tsjalle! Tweety is elegant, refined, leggy and suited with an awesome neck and very good conformation through the body. Even though we would have loved to keep her for our own program, Tweety is going to have a very bright future as a broodmare and dressage Fjord with her new owner. Congratulations on this stunning filly! 

Taavi is a variant form of David and means "beloved" and "adored" and really suits our super adorable colt by Tsjalle out of our Orka daughter Lillian very well. He has a cute refined head and is build very balanced through his body.  Taavi has a quiet easy going personality paired with a uphill, leggy and compact conformation. We are again VERY pleased with this cross!

 DD Joline is a stunning brown dun filly, who has just an amazing, sweet personality, a very balanced body and incredible markings. Joline is red and grey recessive and has a double wither stripe on both sides! She has an adorable head and is big and leggy. Joline is a half sister to DD Jorina, who we retained for our breeding program and are looking forward having both sisters, who are certainly different, to watch grow and develop.  

 DHF Lilly by Montano delivered her 14th foal and last foal of this season. DD Maximus Jr. by Prince Maximus Sur Mer is a huge brown dun colt with substantial bone and just a super personable and friendly disposition. Like all of Lilly's foal, Maximus is build very correctly. He will be growing up with his half brother Magnus and we couldn't have asked for a better place for him!  

Taro was the first foal born at Dungård this year and is Tsjalle's first foal in North America! He is super athletic, fun and extremely functional. Taro is named after his grandfather (Tsjalle's sire) and has the Japanese meaning "first son born" and indicates the following traits... "strong, heroic, masculine, abundance, prolific, melodious, stand up, upright, watchtower". We thought his name is suites him in every way. 

 The Easter Bunny brought us this stunning grey dun colt out of our Mogly daughter Megan! Tajo has not just an impressive pedigree (Tsjalle/Mogly/Prydarson), but beautiful conformation and a very sweet disposition. He is Megan's first foal and we are very impressed with the quality she produced and also how easy, calm and confident she was as a first time mother! 

 Jorina is a breathtaking white dun filly out of our red dun mare Jorun and by Siljar. We just love how this cross worked! She is leggy, has good bone but is still refined and has a beautiful eye. Jorina has shown from the first minute that she has a HUGE personality and we are thrilled to raise this beauty and see how she matures! 

 Born on May Day, Flora is named after the Roman goddess of flowers and spring. This leggy filly is by Thorsten (Torsetblakken x Thilde by Plutonikk) and out of LVG Faski (Prydarson x Skjenna Gard Fiorgyn by Felix). We are very happy to now have something from Thilde back in the program, who we lost to a strangulating lipoma in November. Welcome Flora, our little flower! 

 Silvianna is just the filly we were hoping to get! She has a beautiful, refined head, is big and leggy and has a great disposition. Silvianna likes to move (unlike her mom), but is also calm, gentle, friendly and really likes people. We just love how this cross worked! Silvianna will take over her mom's place in the breeding program and we are excited to see how our first filly by Tsjalle will mature. 

 This guy has it all! Tjalve is super functional RED DUN colt out of our Orka daughter, Lillian, and by Tsjalle. He is beautifully put together and also has a very gentle and friendly mind. 

Our first foal born at the new farm in Valley, meet DD Tjorn. Mr. Presence is Lilly's 13th foal and again beautifully put together. Tjorn is on his way to be big with tons of bone and muscle.
