As much as we hadn't planned on keeping a '25 colt (DD Giotto), we sure didn't anticipate adding another stud colt to the program! But we really liked Matteo right from the start and are excited to be offering a domestically bred stallion in the future!
Matteo intrigued us from the first pictures his breeder posted. There is just something about the presence of this colt, that has captivated us and we think can be a great contribution for our program and the breed in North America.
Both of his paternal grandparents are imports from Norway. His grandmother, Heggens Terna, was imported in 2003, but unfortunately only Matteo's sire Mevan is moving this bloodline forward. Terna's grandmother was the famous yellow dun "Faksi" and we are pleased to have just a little bit of this line in our program. Matteo's dam, RPB Britta, is a stunning grey mare with a fantastic production record, yet her lines aren't widely spread either. She has particularly crossed well with DD Tjalve (Tsjalle x Lillian by Orka), so we have no doubt that Matteo will be a great addition to our program, especially for our Tsjalle daughters.
Matteo has some interesting color genetics: He is a full grey (aa) but also a white dun (Cr). That means he has a 50/50 chance on passing on his cream gene to any foal, just like a white dun. He will always pass on one copy/recessive for grey, just like a grey dun.
