We had absolutely not planned to be keeping a colt from Gio, however, Giotto, has been intriguing us from the time he was born with his leggy balanced conformation, presence and movement. As the icing on the cake, Giotto is a rare yellow dun (and grey recessive), a color we otherwise do not have in the program.
We were convinced Giotto was a red dun when he was born, a month later and being surrounded by a number of white duns, we started doubting our assessment. A color test confirmed that he indeed carries the cream gene, and also got a recessive grey gene from his mother.
But color wasn't the deciding factor whether to keep Giotto. From the very beginning, we liked his compact and balanced conformation. Giotto has one of the best necks we have seen on any Gio foal. This grandsire's disposition shines through in him.
While our new imported stud prospects are a little broader and massive, we hope that Giotto can - at least temporarily - provide for us a stud choice that is tall and lighter in build to breed to our more massive mares.
We are excited to watch him grow and mature here with us!
Future purchase option may be available, but only as a gelding due to contractual obligations.
